The Drum Maker

Acrylic on Canvas 24” x 30”

As a 9 year old kid, I remember struggling to make my own drum. I would try building a drum from tin cans and balloons as the skin but they would break easily. Growing up, I was always fascinated with building my own drum and being able to play it.

A few years ago, I was fortunate to have met Arturo Penunuri who taught me how to build drums from scratch and Bill Mitchell taught me how to put the skin on the drum. Now I’m able to build drums and teach other kids how to make their own drums.

This piece is a good reminder that dreams do come true, with hard work and perseverance.
