Medium: Oil & Cold Wax

Stephanie Lane is an abstract artist based in Central Alberta on Treaty 6 territory and the creator behind Abstract Underground Studio. Her richly textured works are inspired by peeling walls, ancient plaster, natural stone, shifting landscapes, and the energy of ancient cities and urban decay. Using oil and cold wax, she builds layered surfaces and organic textures that balance ruggedness with quiet beauty, often applying multiple layers to achieve her weathered effects.

Influenced by time spent on Vancouver Island, Haida Gwaii, and across the prairies, as well as travels through places rich in ancient architecture, Lane’s work explores the intersection of natural erosion, history, and human expression. Working intuitively, she creates paintings that invite viewers to slow down and experience both emotion and atmosphere within each piece.
