Fine Furniture Maker
Medium: Wood
René LeBel designs and builds custom furniture using solid wood, shop-sawn veneers, and select commercial veneers. His work blends traditional techniques with modern tools, creating refined, contemporary pieces of uncompromising quality—built to last at least as long as the trees they came from.
René began woodworking in the late 1990s as a self-taught hand-tool woodworker, before studying Fine Woodworking at Selkirk College in 2004. He honed his craft in several interior B.C. shops, continuously evolving through a cycle of building and learning.
For René, furniture must be both beautifully crafted and artfully designed—pieces that evoke emotion, invite attachment, and serve with grace. Now based in scenic Canmore, Alberta, he finds endless inspiration in his surroundings.
“Woodworking is a very personal expression of a passion to build, explore, and learn. Central to this is the never-ending cycle of build, learn, build, learn…” René LeBel
