Dale Kalbfleisch

Medium: Veneers, Solid Wood, Stains & Ink
Work displayed in handcrafted wood frames

Dale Kalbfleisch’s work is a tribute to the prairie land of his roots and the people who tend it. His images reflect a deep attention to fluid rhythm, stillness, and the mystery of this land, capturing the impression left after a long gaze, the blink that follows the stare, and the stillness between breaths. Influenced by the geometry and boundaries of fence lines, power poles, road grids, and fields, Dale’s pieces explore layers, patterns, and subtle contrasts in light and form.

Each panel begins with carefully selected veneer or solid wood, chosen for species, grain, and natural colour. Through a process of sketching, routing, staining, shading, and inking, he builds depth and tone. The handcrafted frames add a supportive, layered border that echoes the themes within.

"I owe thanks to those folks tending this land, and for that reason feel comforted and redeemed because of them and their work.”
